Want to know how to grow a lot of fresh food in a really small space? Stop by Unity Park and Community Gardens and check out the Square Foot Gardening Demonstration Bed.

Ellen Roberts and Lynda Campbell, two Master Gardener NC Cooperative Extension Volunteers, started planting a Square Foot Gardening bed at the Unity Park and Community Gardens, Friday, March 23, 2018.

Ellen took some time between planting to talk to City of Lenoir Public Information Officer Joshua Harris about square foot gardening and the purpose of the new demonstration bed. Watch the video on Facebook or YouTube.

Roberts said the purpose of the bed is to show residents that they can, in fact, grow a lot of food in a small area, and the can rotate plants throughout the season.

“You might only have a very small place and go, ‘I can’t garden,’ but you can,” Roberts said. “You can at least get lettuce or spinach or any number of things.

Beds are still available at Unity Park and Community Gardens! Call the Caldwell County Ag Office at 828-757-1290 to reserve a bed and get planting!
