The City of Lenoir Parks and Recreation Department is hosting several Black History Month events at the City’s Martin Luther King Jr. Center. All events are free to the public.

The events start Saturday, Feb. 3, at 7:00 pm, with a Jazz Show featuring Rosa Russ and the Terence Young Experience. Sunday, Feb. 4, there will be a Gospel Singing at 4:00 pm featuring The Mt. Calvary Baptist Men’s Choir w/ The Heavenly Horns and Anointed and Chosen.

 

The following weekend, Saturday, Feb. 10, the MLK Center will show the movie “Marshall” at 5:00 pm. “Marshall” tells the story of a young Thurgood Marshall, the first African-American Supreme Court Justice, as he battles through one of his career-defining cases. Refreshments will be served. Children 13 and younger must be accompanied by parents.

 

The MLK Center will host a Blood Drive Tuesday, Feb. 13, from 2:00 to 6:30 pm. Donors will be placed in a drawing to win tickets to “A Temptations Revue featuring Bo Henderson” at the Broyhill Civic Center Thursday, Feb. 15, at 7:30 pm.

The Quiz Bowl and Essay Contest will be Thursday, Feb. 22, at 6:00 pm.
