Hope you had a great week and are ready for the weekend. We have our winner for the best motto in the state! As you may recall, last month, I sent a shoutout soliciting the best mottos from a North Carolina, county, town or city. We gathered an all-star panel of judges to pare down the top five of the roughly 20 suggestions we received. (I don’t want to hear any complaining from those who didn’t send anything in. Hear that, big cities?)Our all-star judges were Jennifer Appleby, president and chief creative officer of Charlotte-based communications firm Wray Ward; Albert Eckel, partner and co-founder of Raleigh-based communications firm Eckel & Vaughan; and Winn Maddrey, senior vice-president, marketing & corporate communications of Charlotte-based technology company TKXS.
And now, in the words of the late-great disc jockey (and voice of Scooby Doo’s Shaggy) Casey Kasem, “On with the countdown.”5. Sanford: “Well-centered”

Congrats Lenoir! To be honest, all of these were great. Jennifer Appleby put it best: “A tagline should be unique, authentic and memorable. Some of these towns are tourist destinations, so that plays into their language, but what struck me was the overall theme (of all of these places) of hospitality, comradery and good, kind people. This is what we all know and love about North Carolina, from our urban to rural areas to the mountains to our beaches.”
