The Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution, the Bill of Rights – those are the founding documents of the United States known as the Charters of Freedom. Soon, residents of Lenoir and Caldwell County will have their very own Charters of Freedom right in Downtown Lenoir.

Come to the Caldwell County Courthouse Wednesday, July 3, 2019, and help dedicate these pages of our history. The dedication ceremony will start at 9:00 am. The public is invited.

“On behalf of the City of Lenoir, we are very grateful to Vance Patterson and Foundation Forward for this donation to our community,” Mayor Joe Gibbons said. “We are also very appreciative to Caldwell County for donating space beside the courthouse. I personally want to thank the City Public Works department and Jared Wright for their efforts. Our staff did a lot of work to make this happen.”

Foundation Forward, Inc., organized the project and supplied materials including the bronze pages of the founding documents. The City of Lenoir Public Works Department dug the footings, built and installed forms, installed pavers and landscaped the site, and installed the display cases.

Masonry students from all Hibriten, West Caldwell, and South Caldwell high schools bricked the settings. This is the first Charters of Freedom setting where local students participated in the construction.
