The City Public Works Sanitation crews are out picking up garbage where they can today, but pickup on streets that are still slick and icy will be delayed until next week.

“We’re going to pick up on the streets where we can do it safely,” Public Works Director Charles Beck said. “But if the roads are too icy, we’re going to have to do that next week.”

Sanitation crews weren’t able to start collection until 11:00 am today, Thursday, January 18, 2018, and they’ll likely have to start late tomorrow as well due to freezing temperatures forecast for tonight.

Residents who can’t wait to next week can take their trash to a county convenience center. Locations are available on the county website at www.caldwellcountync.org/convenience-centers.

“We apologize for the inconvenience, but we simply can’t run our trucks on icy roads” Beck said.

City trash collection routes and holiday collection schedules can be viewed online at www.cityoflenoir.com/trashpickup.

The Public Works Street Division was out plowing streets yesterday, Wednesday, Jan. 17, to get main roads clear.
Caldwell County operates several recycling centers where residents can drop off trash if they can’t wait for collection next week.
